The name Hoyo de Monterrey is due to the city of San Luis y Martinez, which is located in the heart of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco region. The plantation Hoyo de Monterrey, one of the great Vegas Finas de Primera, can be reached through a gate on the main square, on which the inscription 'Hoyo de Monterrey.
