For the fifth time, Habanos S.A. with the Montecristo Brillantes, an exclusive cigar for the Chinese New Year. This year, a completely new format was created: the “Venerables” (in German, the “venerables”) with a length of 128 mm and a ring gauge of 53. This impressive cigar from the traditional Montecristo brand is in shiny red and gold boxes packed in the typical colors of Chinese New Year. According to the Chinese calendar, the year 2024 is the “Year of the Dragon”. One of these can also be found on the lid of the boldly designed box as a gold metallic inlay. There is also a second ring at the base of the cigar that represents the dragon. Since the number 8 has a special meaning as a lucky number in China, each box contains eighteen of these wonderful cigars. The shape of the box is reminiscent of Asian temple buildings. The cigar boxes are equipped with an NFC chip on the inside of the lid. This technology allows cigar lovers to scan the NFC chip on the packaging to verify the authenticity of the product and obtain additional information about the cigar. The flavor profile of Montecristo Brillantes remains true to the brand and offers a medium to strong blend. Thanks to the large ring size, the diverse and balanced aromas develop particularly impressively, with striking roasted notes starting off. China is an important market for Habanos and interest in Cuban cigars is enormous in the land of the rising sun. Chinese aficionados all over the world are looking for Habanos. But the Habanos on the occasion of Chinese New Year are of course not only interesting for Asian customers: collectors all over the world hope to receive one of the coveted boxes. There are only 18,888 individually numbered boxes available worldwide. A plaque with this number is placed on the inside of the lid. The cigars are rolled from carefully selected top tobaccos from the Vuelta Abajo growing region in Pinar del Rio. The production takes place “totalmente a mano” – as a long filler made entirely by hand. Only in Cuba are all cigars still made exclusively in this traditional way.
