Charles Rattray was born in 1880. The desire to later create high-quality pipe tobacco for connoisseurs arose in him early on. He acquired the necessary knowledge at the nearby Fairweather tobacco factory. There he mixed his first private label pipe tobaccos for many different specialist shops and wholesalers. In 1903 he began working for Brown's Tobacconist, which gave him the knowledge of retail. In 1911 he finally bought the building and from then on ran the store under his name. The range mainly includes blends with English flavors, but lovers of flavored pipe tobacco will also get their money's worth. A quote from Charles Rattray describes the tobaccos as follows: "They are flavored with the seductive goodness that the connoisseur appreciates." To this day, British Line blends are blended according to original recipes that Charles Rattray developed more than a century ago.
