Charatan Special Edition 160th Anniversary
We are pleased to present you a limited edition of the Charatan brand this year: the “Charatan Special Edition 160th Anniversary”.
The name Charatan is well known to pipe smokers worldwide, after all we are talking about one of the oldest pipe brands ever. Frederick Charatan opened his first pipe shop on Mansell Street in London as early as 1863. In the first few years he mainly produced meerschaum pipes. Success didn't take long to arrive. However, the global breakthrough only came with the switch to briar pipes. The company was family-owned until 1960 and was then sold to a major international corporation. The illustrious name Charatan threatened to disappear more and more over the years, before our Scottish friends from Tor Imports took on it in 2017 and helped Charatan to flourish again. Together with the master blenders from Tor Imports, Kopp created, tried and rejected many blends. It had to be a mixture that did justice to the big name. Traditional yet with a modern touch. It took a while, but in the end we found the perfect mix: golden brown burley, as nutty as you could wish for, accompanied by a large proportion of naturally sweet Virginia. This gentle, creamy melange is completed by a portion of Black Cavendish, which excellently conveys an aroma of plum, vanilla and a hint of mirabelle plum. The tobacco aromas are never masked by the aroma. It's just an appeal that ensnares the palate a little with every puff and also ensures an excellent room note. Different types of cuts provide a cool smoking pleasure. The Charatan comes in a shiny royal blue tin with a magnificent unicorn perched on top. The Scottish national animal represents Scotland's long history, which is shrouded in legends and myths.
Nothing fits better than a coat of arms for one of the oldest pipe brands in the world.
